I’ve been involved with sports and fitness ever since I started playing hockey when I was four. As hockey became more serious, I started working with a strength and conditioning coach when I was in middle school – his programming introduced me to olympic lifting and proper exercise form from the very beginning.
In high school I started rowing and was recruited to row in college at Cornell – however a back injury cut my time with the team short. I took a few years away from fitness after college, but found CrossFit with the help of my brother. CrossFit filled the team-shaped gap in my life better than I could have imagined, and CrossFit Route 7 has been a big part of my life since March 2019. Fast forward a few years, and I’m doing CrossFit competitions, Olympic Weightlifting meets, and staging a comeback to the rowing world with Potomac Boat Club.
Coaching has always been an interest of mine – I coached rowing for a few summers in High School. There was no better feeling than watching two athletes I had coached one summer go on to win in future years at Canadian Henley and place second at Head of the Charles. It was such an amazing feeling to have played even a minor role in their achievement.
That’s the attitude I’m bringing with me into Coaching CrossFit – how can I help today’s session build that foundation for success, both inside and outside the gym?
